Greek Archaic bronze lion.
6th century BC.
L. 9.8 cm (3 7/8 in.)
Perfect condition. Fine green and reddish brown patina.

The lion is reclining with its head facing to the right, its forelegs stretched forward, its back legs bent at the body side and its long tail curved over the haunches. The face with round eyes, long muzzle and incised lines marking the eyebrows, the whiskers and the mouth. The head is framed by a mane designed as a rounded ridge with incised radiate lines, and is decorated at the back with an incised irregular pattern denoting the fur.
The lion is modeled with strong majestic expression. The frozen expression with the stylized elements are typical to the Greek Archaic style.
